AED & CPR Training

AED & CPR Training

Acting quickly when someone is in cardiac arrest and fighting for their life is crucially important. Around 60,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the UK every year, but only one in ten people survive. A disturbing statistic is that as many as 270 children will die from cardiac arrest in UK schools each year.

When SCA Strikes... Every Minute Counts

When someone goes into sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces their chances of survival by at least 10%. A defibrillator is a machine that delivers an electric shock to the heart when someone is having a cardiac arrest. This machine is also known as an AED (automated external defibrillator).

Public AED Access and AED Training Vital to Improve Survival Rates

However nearly three quarters of the population are not trained in CPR and defibrillators are available in just 4% of cardiac arrests. More needs to be done to give people a better chance of survival.

Making a Difference

At BLS we invest our time and energy to teach people life saving skills. We offer a specialised 3 hour CPR and AED workshop. Our trainers are fully qualified and certified by Qualsafe. In addition, we offer other First Aid training courses and also supply LIFEPAK® AEDs; the brand used by 70% of UK ambulance services!

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Facts

Sudden cardiac arrest can strike without warning. It knows no boundaries, claiming hundreds of thousands of lives around the world every year. People of all ages, fitness levels and walks of life succumb to it and sadly many don’t survive.

What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)?

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a condition in which the electrical activity of the heart is disrupted and becomes chaotic, resulting in irregular heartbeats and an uncontrolled quivering of the heart muscle. This prevents the heart from effectively pumping blood to the brain and around the body and so causes an abrupt loss of pulse and consciousness in the victim who, within seconds, is unable to breathe. Ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) are two types of abnormal, chaotic heart rhythms that can lead to SCA. There is rarely any warning and you only have minutes to act to prevent death. Without immediate treatment 95% of SCA victims are likely to die. The single most effective treatment for SCA is early defibrillation.
